Issue: In preparation for the upcoming Windows 10 End-Of-Life, Microsoft is forcing Windows 11 upgrades on non-enterprise-managed devices with Windows 10. This is super important to know as the forced upgrade gives little notice and, based upon the machine, can take several hours and does not force a data backup prior.
This is wild because roughly 2/3 of Windows devices are running Windows 10.
Resolution: To avoid a forced upgrade and the potentially poor timing of it being during filing season, Windows 10 users not connected to a domain, should begin the process of upgrading (and backing up) their systems as soon as possible.
It’s much better than showing up at 9am on Monday and waiting 3 hours on an update.
Risk 2: High
Issue: Over 15,000 Fortinet (specifically FortiGate) devices have been compromised, including thousands of passwords and VPN credentials. More so, the information is now being made available on the dark web for free.
Resolution: If you use a FortiGate device, please change all of your related passwords immediately as well as apply all available security updates.
It is also recommended that, if you have a static IP from your Internet provider, that you chance that as well.
Risk 3: Low
Issue: The FTC has ordered GoDaddy, one of the largest domain and web hosting platforms in the country, to implement additional security measures or face fines, or possible government intervention. GoDaddy has long been known for bypassing or working about security requirements while promoting secure and managed websites.
Resolution: No immediate action is necessary. Just be watching for e-mails and notifications from GoDaddy if you are a user on their upcoming actions to ensure you are not locked out of your accounts.
