Critical Security Update: May 30, 2024 (Increase in Breaches, LightSpy Expansion, Microsoft Windows, Google Play Store)
Critical Security Update
Increase in Breaches, LightSpy Expansion, Microsoft Windows, Google Play Store
Risk 1: Medium
Issue: LightSpy, a spyware tool previously targeting Android and iOS devices in Asia, has expanded its operation and is now targeting iOS, Android, Windows, and Macs. This is a very aggressive strain that includes 16 internal spyware tools that spread throughout your system collecting data, screenshots, recordings and more. Regionality is no longer a limiting factor either.
And, yes, mobile devices and macs are vulnerable as well.
Resolution: This is a very aggressive tool. Users should continue to be cautious. More so, users should continue to increase their coverage with proper, enterprise-level anti-malware and security software.
Risk 2: Medium
Issue: Microsoft has released critical updates both both Windows 10 and 11 (correcting over 30+ vulnerabilities across both).
Resolution: The update was released last night and should be applied. The majority of these is mid-level.
Risk 3: Medium
Issue: Nearly 100 malicious applications were found on the Google Play store - totaling nearly 6 million downloads. Google has not released a full list of all infected applications
Resolution: One of the downfalls of the Google Play store is that there is limited scanning or review of applications prior to posting.
Please review the apps you have installed and remove any apps that you do not known the publisher or that you do not use regularly.
